The Challenge
As I have looked for work outside of public education, I have hit two main roadblocks. First, it is extremely difficult to get my resume past the ATS algorithm and in front of a hiring manager or recruiters. Second, it is necessary to quickly and efficiently demonstrate my proficiency in industry authoring tools like Articulate Storyline. I need to create portfolio assets that help accomplish both of these goals.
The Solution
By transforming my Resume into a Storyline course I can communicate my values and qualifications in a new and novel way, while simultaneously demonstrating my skills in using authoring tools.
There are some limitations to this solution however. The length of the course and the inclusion of Knowledge Checks may deter some recruiters from completing the course. With a main objective of the course being a comprehensive demonstration of Storyline interactions, I felt that it was necessary to showcase my ability to create scored questions. A big challenge will be hooking the audience in the first couple slides to make them want to explore the course to its fullest. A shorter platform like 7taps for Articulate Rise might be a more appealing for recruiters while sacrificing the second objective. In the future I plan on making my resume using one of those solutions.
The Results
This project is still (and may always be) a work in progress. As I continue to build my skills and gain more experience, this course will need to be updated. As such, this resume will never be fully finished. Despite this, my Interactive Resume has already had an impact in demonstrating my proficiency in Articulate Storyline. I have also given the opportunity for participants to submit feedback on the course and I have already utilized feedback to improve elements of the course.
